In 2022, The EU Added 41.4GW Of Photovoltaic Installed Capacity Jan 06, 2023
The latest report of the European Photovoltaic Association SPE shows that in 2022, the 27 EU countries will add 41.4GW of new photovoltaic installed capacity, with an annual growth rate of nearly 50%. It will be close to 120GW.

The data shows that the 27 EU countries will add 41.4GW of new photovoltaic installed capacity in 2022, an increase of 28.1GW compared with last year, achieving a year-on-year increase of 47%. By 2022, the cumulative photovoltaic installed capacity is expected to reach 208.9GW. SPE predicts that the EU photovoltaic market is expected to continue to grow rapidly in the next few years. Under the general forecast scenario, the newly installed capacity in 2023 is expected to reach 53.4GW, and under the optimistic forecast scenario, it will reach 67.8GW.

In terms of countries, in 2022 Germany will once again dominate with 7.9GW of new installed capacity, by Spain with 7.5GW, Poland with 4.9GW, the Netherlands with 4GW, and France with 2.7GW. The report pointed out that for the first time, the top ten markets in the EU have all passed the GW-level threshold, and the newly installed capacity of 26 member states has achieved growth.

Germany's new installed capacity is expected to exceed 10GW in 2023, a total of 62.6GW will be added between 2023 and 2026, and a total of 131GW will be added by 2026. Spain is expected to add 51.2GW of installed capacity between 2023 and 2026, and its cumulative installed capacity will increase from 26.4GW in 2022 to 77.7GW.

According to the report, under the general forecast scenario, between 2023 and 2026, the total installed capacity of the 27 EU member states will be about 275.2GW, and the cumulative installed capacity will reach 484.1GW by 2026, and the newly installed capacity in 2026 will exceed 85GW. Under the optimistic forecast scenario, the report predicts that the newly installed capacity in 2023 is expected to be 68GW, and the newly added capacity in 2026 will be close to 119GW.

The report suggests that under the general forecast scenario, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaics in EU countries may exceed 920GW by 2030, far exceeding the 2030 photovoltaic installed capacity target of 750GW set by the European Commission's REPowerEU strategic plan.

At the same time, SPE also gave an estimate of the cumulative installation of photovoltaics in the EU in 2030 under the optimistic forecast scenario. According to the report, if within the EU, the remaining problems that plague the development of the photovoltaic market can be fully resolved, and all member states have established reasonable development goals and a strong policy framework, by 2030 the cumulative installation of photovoltaics in the EU The capacity is expected to reach 1,184GW, exceeding the target previously set by REPowerEU by nearly 60%.
